December 21st

weather: cold!

Winter is a s-l-o-w time for cuuh hunters around here. Haven't been logging lately because we haven't found any interesting cuuh. We've been visiting the various Goodwill stores in Loveland and Ft Collins in the past few weeks, and we have bought a few things, mostly clothing items and a few books, both of which seem rather boring.
Last Friday, however, Joe found a very interesting pencil holder which he bought for $2. It is made from some sort of ceramic, full of detail, and skillfully painted. It feels heavy and sturdy and is a very nice piece:

Very realistic looking twisted up minature gunbelt! The piece itself is much more matte, the camera flash makes it look glossy.

Now, for all you cat photo fans, here is a picture of our newest cat:

She is a very sweet cat, very playful and very smart. Hopefully she will be a big help with logging the cuuh in '08!!

Joe bought a "grab box" of stuff and an old Geography textbook that Mick wanted, for $10. Mick insisted on paying Joe $5 for the book, so this box of assorted stuff wound up costing us $5. In the box were:
  • 2 boxes of nails (in foreground)
  • a shop stapler and box with a few staples in it (partially hidden behind box of nails)
  • a Makita 1/4 sheet palm sander with dust bag
  • pair of halogen auto lights, still in pkg
  • a Craftsman 1/2 sheet palm sander
  • a 12-volt air compressor (looks new)
  • a couple of nightlight bulbs
  • a power jigsaw
  • a stack of sandpaper

the rest of today's cuuh, starting at the top left corner:
  • 2 zippered "keeper" notebooks - $1/both
  • 2 flannel-backed vinyl tablecloths - free
  • milkshake maker - $7
  • 2 paperback books - free
  • 2 small tubes containing erasers for a mechanical pencil - 20 cents/both
  • partial tube of black drawing ink - 10 cents
  • bundle of pencils - 25 cents
  • 2 old window decals for Gila National Forest - 20 cents/both

You may notice that there are no cats helping to log the cuuh today, none seemed interested. What were they doing instead of helping me??

October 12th

weather: cool and very pleasant

amount spent: $20.15

comments: so good to be back hunting the cuuh with Gail and Mick, after a month's absence!

<span class=
We'll start with a picture of all three cats exploring the cuuh, although only Felix is in the thick of things

starting at rear left:
  • large blue plastic tray - 50 cents
  • shirt for Joe - $1
  • pink T-shirt - 25 cents
  • yoghurt maker - $4
  • small parts cabinet - $1
  • trailer plug and wire (on top of cabinet) - $2
  • keyboard - 50 cents
  • 4 picture frames (only 3 visible) - 10 cents each
  • book about construction of German buildings (in German) - $1
  • karoke multiplexer with 4 microphones - $5
  • 3 shirts for Joe - $1 each
  • wood plate - $1
  • package of hand painted cards - 25 cents

<span class=
For some reason this didn't make it into the picture above:
  • pressed flower picture - 25 cents

<span class=
Close-up of the wooden plate, it is made from pieces of wood glued together, then the plate was turned. The cross sections make such interesting and beautiful designs!

<span class=
Love this photo of the construction crew posing on the roof of the building on the cover of this book. The book is full of scaled diagrams and drawings, it is a how-to book for constructing German houses, copyrighted 1940.

<span class=
A little better view of the multiplexer and microphones. 3 of the mikes are wired, the one in the case is a wireless unit. This machine doesn't play karaoke, it is for recording and controlling multiple inputs simultaneously. Looks like it might have some interesting possibilties...

September 22nd--On the Road

weather: warm and a bit muggy

amount spent: $1.50

comments: We are out of town this week, but still managed to fit in a little saleing. Thought we'd spend this morning doing a little cuuh hunting, so I checked the garage sale listings in the local paper and Craigs List and learned that there was a town-wide garage sale going on about 60 miles from here, in Lawrenceburg, TN. So we headed in that direction to see what we could find. We went to quite a few sales, but didn't find a whole lot of interesting cuuh. We did manage to have fun looking, and saw some beauiful scenery along the way, so it was worth the trip.

  • hot air popper, suitable for coffee bean roasting - $1
  • 2 spools metalic thread - 25 cents each

After we tired of looking through the local cuuh offerings, we took a short drive around Lawrenceburg and through the David Crockett State Park, located on the edge of town. It's a nice park with lots of picnic areas, a couple of campgrounds, a swimming pool (closed for the season), a restaurant, small lake, and lots and lots of trees. Here are a few pictures I took in the park:

Nice view of a river a short hike from the road

In this picture, Joe is laughing about the slippery rocks and his wet foot.

Although we didn't find much cuuh this morning, we had a nice drive, saw a lot of pretty scenery, and had a fun time. Lawrenceburg was full of really pretty crepe myrtle blooming, unfortuneatly none of the pictures I took of them turned out, I'm still working on learning the new camera. And perhaps it is best we didn't buy much, as the car is already quite full with Traveller and all our other stuff...

September 9th

weather: pleasant

amount spent: $38.50

comments: I didn't go saleing this week because I woke up with a migrane, so it was just Joe, G + M. I was feeling much better by the time Joe got home, thankfully, so I can at least log the cuuh...

We'll start with our featured cat checking out cuuh, which this week is Rita. The boys did a preliminary scan but didn't show a lot of interest in any of it. Rita, however, was interested and I managed to get this picture.
