The sale is an estate sale, selling off the contents of Mick's parents' house, so it is a bittersweet experience for M + G. Web and Mary bought the house new in 1969, and it isn't surprising that they accumulated quite a lot of stuff over the years. Time for it all to go to a new home. Considering things from another perspective, sales like this one are the sort all of us enjoy the most. Estate sales in older neighborhoods where the accumulation has spanned decades. It's where the unexpected treasures are, rather than sales in newer neighborhoods where people are just thinning their possessions. We are always concious of the sad changes usually preceeding and necessitating estate sales, but there is no arguing that such sales are rewarding treasure hunts. Many of the customers today were neighbors who knew Web, so the best possible home for the merchandise. Lots of bargains for everyone else.
It was a perfect day for the sale. Very bright and sunny, and hot, although there was a good breeze most of the day and it was pleasant in the shade. The plan is to do it again tomorrow and then box up what is left on Sunday for a pick up by charity. The house is already on the market and needs to be emptied.
We will undoubtably come away from the sale with our share of treasures--I'll log that cuuh in a day or two.
